As an experienced counsellor, I understand the importance of having a place where you can simply feel heard, where you don’t feel invisible – as if you’re trudging through treacle all on your own. My role is to work alongside you, in an atmosphere of compassion and curiosity, as you speak about your thoughts and feelings as freely as you like.

Areas I Work With

Depression

Working through depression isn’t easy, and takes time, but I am here to support you every step of the way. Often, when exploring depression with clients, whether it’s clinical depression, post-natal depression, or depression caused by bipolar disorder, they believe that life will never get better for them. This point of view is common. You may feel unmotivated, lethargic, and hopeless, and I am here to validate these feelings and work with you to understand where they come from in the first place, ahead of gradually replacing these unhelpful thought patterns with a more compassionate mindset.

Anxiety

Anxiety comes in many different forms, such as generalised anxiety disorder, phobias, social anxiety, panic attacks, or obsessive-compulsive disorder. It could be that you are always catastrophising and imagining the worst-case scenario, or using alcohol/substances to overcome the anxiety, only for the feeling to return tenfold on the other side. My practice is a safe, friendly, confidential space to work through your anxiety, learning your triggers and how to manage it more effectively going forward.

Relationships

I work with individuals to overcome relationship issues of all kinds. This could be communication issues with a partner, problems in the family unit, getting over a breakup, or workplace conflicts. No matter what kind of troubles you are going through, I help you work through them in an atmosphere of no judgement, compassion, and curiosity. This is your time – a chance to speak with total freedom about your relationships with other people.

Bereavement and Loss

If you have recently suffered a loss, of any kind, it can be hard to know how you are feeling. Everyone grieves in their own way; some people feel angry, frustrated, or sad, while others don’t feel anything at all, or become highly unmotivated. Working through this complex process on your own is never easy. Having a dedicated place where you can talk it through, in any way you like, allows you to process this grief and, over time, come to a place of acceptance.

Trauma

Most mental health issues, from depression to anxiety to addiction, take their roots in early trauma. These experiences, and our reaction to them as children, laid the template for how we think, feel, and behave in present-day situations. Trauma restricts us from experiencing a full range of emotions and leads to a range of unhelpful thoughts and maladaptive behaviours, and our work will revolve around engaging with this trauma and learning what role it plays in your life. I can also provide crisis interventions for those suffering with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
